We’re not normally one for believing rumours, but we’ve seen a few reports lately that Chinese demand for oak could cause shortages or price increases worldwide. Now, we’ve seen nothing of this yet, but it might be wise to consider making your purchase of new wood flooring as soon as possible as in our experience prices only ever go in one direction anyway. We’ll also keep you posted if we see any evidence of shortages.

A New Home For Some Old Wood

Sorry, old wood is probably not the best way to describe a piece of English heritage such as the Mary Rose – which is what is having a new £35m museum built around her. The building is externally complete and the interior fit out is under way. Read more here.

45,000 Visitors

2012′s Domotex exhibition, the international flooring trade show, attracted a whopping 45,000 visitors between the 14th and 17th of January. 1371 manufacturers of floor coverings, accessories and more showed their wares at this years show. Hopefully we’ll see some of the exciting new products becoming available to market soon.

Today’s video is a short introduction to the many different types of bamboo available – even we didn’t know there were so many; that said, bamboo isn’t that popular on this side of the pond at the moment, but perhaps it should be, as it had excellent green credentials because it grows much faster than any wood and has excellent durability. The Quality Of Laminate

We always strive to offer our customers a product that they like, but that is also suitable for the area and use it will be subject to. For instance, we wouldn’t recommend a solid wood floor for a kitchen. Likewise for commercial propertiesor other areas of high traffic, whilst wood can be used, laminate or vinyl floors are much more suitable. This is because they can be manufactured with a harder finish to stand up to lots of traffic and brush off potential scratches with ease. And, if the worst does happen, they aren’t as expensive to repair or replace. Plus modern laminates and vinyls are much more like real woods with grain effects and less repition in the boards.

So perhaps it’s time to give laminate another look?
